Reiki

Reiki at Plainfield Congregational UCC

Jesus met people and helped them at the point of their personal need in their lifelong journey toward wholeness. It didn’t matter whether the need was spiritual, physical, emotional, or in their relationships with other people. Jesus invites those who seek to live his way not only to embrace their own journey toward wholeness, but to become agents of God’s healing love, just as he was. As he says in John 14:12 “Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.” So it is that as we seek to live Christ’s compassion, we seek to be engaged in activities that promote healing and wholeness. We believe that Reiki is one way in which we can promote healing and wholeness.

Reimeans Divinely Directed or Universal

Kimeans life energy

Energy is all around us and a part of us.  When our energy becomes depleted through stress, overwork and over-concern about life’s issues, we are most prone to illness.  Reiki is a means of restoring vital energy in a soothing, relaxing manner.  Reiki assists us in healing, by restoring balance to the physical, mental and emotional levels of our being.  Receiving Reiki is also highly beneficial and complimentary to other healing methods such as massage, acupuncture and traditional medicine.

Our pastor describes our ministry in this way: “As a Reiki practitioners we focus the divine healing energy that is present everywhere in the universe toward an individual or situation. Just as water molecules are present in the atmosphere, but need to be concentrated and delivered to a glass or a fountain, a river or a stream if we are to have a drink of water, so Reiki concentrates the universal healing energy.  It is the same healing energy that we tap in to when we pray. But we don’t normally spend 30-45 minutes praying for a single person or situation. So in many ways Reiki can be called Intensive Prayer Therapy.”

The Mission Statement of the Reiki Ministry Team is "to share God's love with all people as we promote healing and wholeness through the compassionate touch of Reiki.”   A Reiki session generally lasts about 30 minutes. The recipient remains clothed throughout the session.
